Catholic Men Organisation
History of Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) – St. Dominic’s Parish.
Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) St. Dominic’s Catholic Church Yaba was formed in 1997 under the leadership of Chief Bar. P. O. Okolo KSM, as an upshoot of Confraternity of Christian Fathers. The formation of CMO at that time was encouraged by the serving Pastor, Rev. Father MaryVin Ubili, OP.
At the expiration of Chief Okolo’s tenure, Chief Dr. Gregory Otun Adeyemi (MFR) took over as the President. The Organization under his leadership stabilized as more Men in the Parish identified with the Organization. Members become more active and cooperative.
Further, obligation to the church were honoured, attendance improved and minutes were typed and distributed to all members with the practice sustained till date.
In 2012, Mr. Patrick Grandville Okoro emerged as the Chairman of the Organisation and serving till date. His leadership consolidated on existing practices / membership partipation, introduction of fitness and wellness programmes including rendering supportive roles to the Parish. We salute the past and existing Presidents / their respective Executive Committees and indeed all members of the Organization.
Objective of the Organization
To develop the spiritual well being of members and also bring out the social being in them.
Membership is open to all male parishioners (Practicing Catholics) with a minimum age of 25 years. Presently, we are 130 members in the organization Membership Register but records an average attendance of 80 to 90 active members at monthly meetings. The Spiritual Director of CMO is Rev. Fr. Felix Onemheghie, OP (Pastor).
St. Dominic’s Catholic Church is our heritage and all the members of the Church cherish the status of the church and are proud to defend the Church as at when due. The population of the men in St. Dominic’s is large and one would naturally expect an overflow in the membership of the CMO. This has not been so.
Our Relationship with the Pastor and Parishioners
We enjoy enormous cooperation with the Pastor, the clergy and the Religious. The CMO is ever ready to take up assignments as allotted, to it by the Church, spiritually, socially and otherwise.
The present Executive Committee assumed office on 14 May, 2017.
